Americans in FlorenceA new guidebook to the city

Americans in Florence
[]

Audrey and FerragamoA brand new guide is now available to English-speaking visitors, with special regard to American ones: Americans in Florence– A complete guide to the city and the places associated with Americans past and present is both an extremely well-informed guide to the city and its opportunities for tourists, and a record of its American guests – both visitors and residents – over more than three centuries.

Written by Alta Macadam, the book is published by APT Firenze - the Florence Tourist Board - together with Giunti, a publishing house that is part of the history of Florence. Alta Macadam, well-known author of several authoritative Blue Guides to Italy, was born in Britain of an American mother and is a long-time resident in Florence.

This guide book takes the reader along five itineraries – three in the centre of Florence and two in its beautiful surroundings – offering all along plenty of useful information and precious tips about what to see, where to stay, where to eat and what to buy, showing at the same time Florence as it was (and still is) seen by its many distinguished American visitors of the past and present.

The text is enriched by quotations from the works of important American writers who visited Florence, giving the reader an opportunity to look at the city from a novel point of view. The book is also richly illustrated with both period photographs and modern ones.

Americans in Florence was devised, researched, written and printed at a time when the world was experiencing a crucial moment in history, as indeed it still is. Aware that tourism can only prosper in times of peace, through this guidebook APT Firenze wishes to celebrate centuries of fruitful contacts between the American people and Florence, confident that the strength of such relationship will continue to increase in a future blessed with peace.

The guide, now available in the bookshops of Florence, is also distributed in the largest stores of the main U.S. and European cities.
