River to River looks at the new colossal and dissonant productive machine of
Bollywood. With its colors and music, Bollywood represents one of the most diverse and kitsch movie worlds, its actors have become full-fledged divas appearing on the front pages of newspapers and who have fans (15 million weekly) that identify strongly with them. This festival, however, concentrates on the on the movies and faces of the authors of independent films, portraits and stories of a million men and women. Films made with small budgets and a lot of creativity, testimonies to a bitter conflict with the stronger mechanisms of Bollywood’s commercial cinema. The Festival focuses on directors that depict stories of pressing realities in strong and visually innovative ways, and that find themselves crushed by the commercial machine of
Bollywood.
