Fabbrica Europa 2011
[]

Worlds of Culture, the 18th edition of the Festival of Florence and Tuscany, opens a new investigation into the many “cultural islands” that form the wealth of Europe.
The opening night is dedicated to Alain Platel who presents Gardenia at the Teatro Verdi. The Leopolda Station instead opens with a world premiere that is a contemporary reinterpretation (vocals, electronic music and video projections) of a 15th century Flemish opera, co-produced by Tempo Reale, L’Homme Armè, the Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino and Fabbrica Europa. Another world premiere stars Stefano Bollani with the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Mirko Guerrini: classical echoes, 20th century European sounds and new suggestions from the American avant-garde jazz. Six musicians have organised a project in tribute to Robert Wyatt, founder of the Soft Machine and one of the greatest living composers. The Zita Swoon Group, in collaboration with Rosas and under the guidance of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, offer a trip through unusual musical and choreographic compositions. The Norwegian Verdensteatret group offers a first performance in Italy with a concert/installation/performance in continuous transformation carried out by an “artistic machine” of musicians, performers and robots. Virgilio Sieni is instead present in the double role: as choreographer with his Company for Tristi Tropici and as director for the world premiere of Due Lupi with actresses Luisa and Silvia Pasello. A ballet of strong physical and visual impact by the Norwegian group Zero Visibility Corp gives a first performance in Italy along with the Dutch T.r.a.s.h. Abito e Lisboa by Roberto Bacci and Anna Stigsgaard, with the Laboratory Company of Pontedera, accompanied by suggestions from the poetry of Pessoa. Karine Saporta and Luca Scarlini sign an ironic reflection on eros and gender. The Focus on Art and Science in the Performing Arts project promotes a linguistic contamination through new generations of artists: Santasangre, Muta Imago, Vincenzo Carta, La Zampa and Miha Erman. Three appointments focusing on contemporary, jazz and electronic music mark Suona Francese (French Sound). Play Black is an evening dedicated to international trends in black music with the Dinamitri Jazz Folklore & Omara “Bombino” Moctar, Wax Tailor, Jazzanova and Voodoo Rebel. The Festival closes with Clan-destini, a performance by Krypton with 100 migrants and music by La Scena Muta.
