Teatro del Sale

Teatro del Sale
[Susan Glasspool]

Situated in a 14th century convent near the Sant’Ambrogio Market, this unusual environment serves mouthwatering food created by Cibreo’s famous and original chef Fabio Picchi. The food itself is rooted in Tuscan traditions and fresh from the market, though Picchi’s estro as chef cum performer transforms the simplest dish into something you would die for, just to taste it again...
The atmosphere is quite informal - you can watch Picchi at work in the kitchen and just wait for his call to come and collect your platter yourself - and be quick about it for he does not want his careful prepared delicacies to get cold!
Open all day: breakfast, lunch and dinner (5, 14 and 24 E all inclusive, respectively), the club bursts into life in the evening when the curtain rises on the internal theatre. Performances are varied and can range from music (classical, jazz & blues), poetry and theatre act by artistic director Maria Cassi, whose friends and colleagues tread the boards in exchange for food and exposure.
Club membership means really reasonable prices and a series of rules that aim to encourage cultural activities and maintain a pleasantly friendly atmosphere. Unique in Florence, this delightful club, theatre, restaurant plus is definitely not to be missed.
Prior reservation is suggested.
