Cézanne Special

lorence was important for Paul Cézanne’s artistic career thanks to two young collectors, Egisto Paolo Fabbri and Charles Alexander Loeser, both born in America, but enriched by their Renaissance background. Between the 19th and 20th centuries, they collected about 50 of the artist’s finest paintings, greatly contributing towards his recognition. Cézanne, today considered a founder of modern painting, was ignored by critics in his lifetime. The collectors’ interest led to the first Impressionist exhibition in Italy, held in Florence. The Cézanne show illustrates the culturally intense period in Florence at the turn of the century, when many intellectuals resided here. It is a unique chance to see masterpieces that are rarely seen together. Some are from the Fabbri and Loeser collections, scattered between the two World Wars, others are by his contemporaries.
