Pompeii - A return to the Roman times
You can reach Pompeii from Napoli either by bus or train. Make the images from history books become reality before your own eyes. This trip will take you back in the time until 79 AD. Pompei, a city in the Roman Empire, was buried under ash, rock and lava when Vesuvius (the volcano in Campania) suddenly erupted. Other small cities, Herculaneum and Oplontis, were also devastated and can also be easily reached by train. Thanks to the excavations carried out during the 18th and 19th centuries today we can admire an amazingly well-conserved ruined city and discover the habits, the day-to-day life and the private and public buildings of those times. Look out for and explore the bakery, the tragic house of the poet (where you can see a sign saying “beware of the dog”), the temple of Isis, the public baths, the Theatres, the Amphitheatre and the city brothel. Don’t miss the Villa of the Miracles, located at one corner of the city, and the many graffiti carved on the exterior of the house.

How to go: Take a bus from the central train station in Napoli. The bus ticket is 3 euros and it only takes one hour to get there.
