Museo Stibbert costumiMuseo Stibbert, home of famed English and Florentine antiquarian Frederick Stibbert, includes grandeur of armory, furniture, wall coverings, and accessories. Known most famously for the collection of armor from Europe to East Asia, including the largest collection of Japanese armory in the world outside of Japan (reveling over 2,000 pieces), this magnificent museum and home masterfully depicts the layout as per the late homeowner. Behind the museum is a hidden oasis – a large garden with a lake, open to the public every day except Thursday mornings. With its opulently rich décor and homey appeal in the second part of the building as well as the monstrously gorgeous armory, this is a must-see when in Florence. But if you wish to see the Japanese armory and amazingly crafted blades, plan accordingly for this exhibit is only open Friday and Sunday afternoons and Saturday mornings (or upon a reservation for a group: call at least one day ahead). Museo Stibbert definitely puts up a fight against any other museums in Florence.
