the Scots in Florence

The Scottish market
[]

The Scots instead take over Santa Maria Novella...
Hark the bagpipes play and all good Celts take heed....
If you are entitled to wear a kilt (as all good Scots know, you need to be a member of a clan), get it out, put it on and follow the sound of the pipes or the scent of haggis and whisky... you will soon find yourself in Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Native Scots suffering from homesickness or nostalgic American Scots will be thrilled to find their very own Scottish market in Florence. Here you can find a Scottish Market selling typically Scottish products (will any of the Florentines be daring enough to buy a haggis?), and where the wary but more probably the addicted (!) - can taste pure Scottish malt whiskies and other specialities. It will warm the cockles of your heart on a cold Florentine day and don’t forget whisky - hot and laced with milk or lemon - is considered by the Scots and the English alike as a marvellous cure for head colds, a real knockout cure! The event is supported by various initiatives aimed to give an idea of the important history and customs of this wonderful Celtic country. It opens with a Scottish band parade, complete with bagpipes and drums, through the city centre on Saturday December 2rd. Exhibitons, guided whisky tastings with the Single Malt Club of Scotland and evenings of Scottish dancing - jigs, reels, strathspeys, waltzes, etc - are aimed to bring a thrill to all lovers of Scotland.

Piazza Santa Maria Novella - December 2nd-10th 10am-7.30pm.
