Artist, scientist, engineer, architect, inventor...
The mind of Leonardo
[
Susan Glasspool]

Most of the previous exhibitions on the great genius Leonardo da Vinci have tended to concentrate on single aspects of his many talents, in other words, on art, anatomy, science and techniques. Shows on his inventions have instead usually been more to celebrate the artist and rarely based on scientific knowledge.
This exhibition hopes to bridge this gap by offering a clear idea of
Leonardo’s essential contribution to culture in general, as his genius ranged from the sciences and techniques to the arts. Above all, it presents an organic view of Leonardo's many activities, what inspired them and the connections between them, from his artistic research into nature, nature and anatomy studies, machinery and architectural designs, scientific experiments, etc.
Here you can discover that the universal nature of Leonardo’s personality and interests was really part of his great project to compile a unitary encyclopaedia providing essential knowledge for artists wishing to perfectly reproduce nature, rather than a sign of his intollerance of being forced to limit his work to one specific sector.
The show is a suggestive but historically correct exploration into the way Leonardo's mind worked, while taking into account the environment and time in which he lived, and helps the public to understand the artist and the inspired curiosity that led him to investigate every field of science, anatomy, engineering, architecture, nature and art.
The exhibition includes many original drawings and paintings by Leonardo, a series of spectacular models of his more innovative machines and some of his brilliant experiments. The organic unity of Leonardo’s incredible mind is further illustrated with suggestive multimedial instruments.
