Don’t forget Florence is a centre of fashion
Pitti is not just a Palace!

January and February are important fashion months in Florence for it is when the first great fashion shows open for the season and confirm Florence as an international capital of haute couture.
Hopefully you will be here from January 11th to 14th 2006 to visit the show, as well as perhaps enjoy some of the collateral events.
Pitti Immagine Uomo is one of the most significant world previews of men’s fashions, clothing, accessories, objects and every year opens the international calendar of trade fairs in the textiles and clothing sector. Now in its 69th season, it is known world-wide for dynamic and contemporary men’s fashion.
It offers a complete cross-section of the market, classical, informal, avant-garde and high-end collections that provide strong images and product content. Research, design and quality for a global strategy are the key words behind the January edition that presents the 2006-7 Autumn-Winter season.
Organized by
Pitti Immagine and sponsored by the Florence Centre of Italian Fashion, Pitti Uomo is a prestigious event for the city’s image and economy, thanks also to the many supporting events that give the city centre of Florence an international allure when all the fashion people meet up at the end of their working day.
All the stores take special care over their window dressings, while Florentine nightlife is almost totally dedicated to this glamorous event.
Some of this year’s original events include: Pitti Immagine Rooms (collections on display at the
Harold Acton Library) and Welcome (the new streetwear event at the
Leopolda Station), plus special initiatives like New Beat inside the
Fortezza da Basso itself, together with the
Pitti Discovery Foundation events at the Leopolda (Dust, Dustulator, Dustdam and Dustpump, installations by Rick Owens). Teatro Goldoni hosts the Calvin Klein Jeans party with an international guest star on January 13th. At the Fortezza, Classic Italy presents the restoration of the sculpture Repentance in the
Boboli Gardens by Bartolomeo Rossi, and Acqua di Parma shows its new Barbiere Collection at its stand on January 11th.
Pitti Uomo transforms Florence into a creative container for parties, presentations and special projects. The British Consulate is throwing a party promoted by the
British Menswear Guild and other labels at Pitti (British style, contemporary art, music and fashion) on January 13th. Messagerie presents its new men’s collections in the Throne Room of
Palazzo Corsini (January 12th). Monsieur magazine celebrates male elegance with an exhibition dedicated to its cover pages at the
Teatro della Pergola on January 12th, while Tenax hosts the L’Altro Uomo party with famous guest dancers on January 13th.
The idea is to create a global laboratory, a sort of city within a city to promote commercial trends and input. A message that has been taken up by this year’s special guest, the
Maison Martin Margiela at the
Fortezza da Basso (welcome party at the
Teatro Puccini on January 12th). So you can see that there is plenty going on fashion-wise in January alone...
