La dolce vita! The Dolce Vita wine, music and aperitif bar

Life is sweet in Florence
[Jane Whittle]

La dolce Vita!Well you went to the Uffizi and saw everything there was to see...then you went to the Academy, the Pitti Palace and other museums and galleries and, hopefully, you found it all as described by Elisabeth Barret-Browning, "the most beautiful of the cities devised by man". However now you feel you deserve a rest and want to find somewhere where you can sit down and relax. How about a special aperitif and perhaps a snack? Surely they would go down very well after so much mental and physical effort!
If you are in the Oltrarno area, stagger as far as Piazza del Carmine, where, at number 6r, you can find the Dolce Vita, one of the historical meeting places of the more sophisticated Florentine youth, as well as students, and symbol of the Florentine movida. This mythical bar-cum-eating place, where Florentine fashions and glamour are born, offers a trendy interior design plus a magical exterior, particularly pleasant during the summer. Its somewhat hippy yet contemporary atmosphere gathers further impetus thanks to the monthly exhibitions of paintings and photos inspired by the latest art trends, together with performances and serenades of jazz and classical music.
La Dolce Vita is great at aperitif time (they create a new and different aperitif every evening), as you can accompany your sundowner by dipping liberally into the platefuls of delicious upscale appetizers - not just peanuts and crisps - but croutons, shushi and other delicacies, further enhanced by spectacular and mouthwatering fruit creations.
Sip away at your special aperitif, nibble your appetizers, glory in the fruit and enjoy yourself while literally watching the world go by - you can often spot a Vip trying to mingle unobtrusively with the crowd - and you will find you won't want any dinner afterwards either!
At this point stay on for the rest of the evening...it is, after all, the place to be seen, now that you are here.
