Try the Osteria dell’Agnolo
[Susan Glasspool]

Yum YumUndoubtedly this delightful restaurant is one of the oldest and most characteristic in Florence, so when you are in the area of San Lorenzo don’t miss the chance of dropping in for a meal. It is also just the place to take visiting friends or relations as even if you haven’t yet perfected your Italian the owners speak English, you will still be understood!

This ancient tavern was originally known as the Locanda dell'Agnolo and its position in Borgo San Lorenzo, only 100 metres from the Cathedral, has meant that it has always been a popular port of call for people wanting to taste the best Tuscan foods and wines ever since it first opened in 1580.

The country style furnishings in this old inn, which occupies two stories of the building, are warm and welcoming, with room enough to seat up to 250 people - several coachloads if necessary! - and blessed with all those creature comforts that, admit it, we all appreciate and are coming to expect, like air conditioning, satellite TV, a giant screen and even a stereo system.
The Osteria specialises in typical Tuscan menus as well as snacks, starters and pizzas. This is one of the few places where you can get a real Fiorentina (the thick juicy Florentine T-bone steak), really a meal unto itself, though, don’t worry, all the steaks are Brussels approved! No mad cows are allowed in here...

The owner, Luca Bracali and his wife will be only too pleased to explain the menu - creatively cooked by chef-executive Roberto Bulian - which also boasts delicious home-made pasta, served with various sauces, as well as a wide choice of tasty pizzas, all cooked in a traditional wood-burning oven (the best and only way for a good pizza). Naturally you can round off the meal with one of the restaurant’s yummy desserts or simply fresh fruit or ice-cream.
The wine list is excellent though, if you prefer, the restaurant also serves a selection of excellent beers as well of course as soft drinks.

Credit cards are accepted or, if you prefer, cash and all Ticket Restaurant cards. The Osteria also offers all American students a free glass of limoncello (lemon liqueur) plus a 10% discount on presentation of a copy of Vivi Firenze. Make the most of the offer!

It is open all day and every day throughout the year from midday to 2 in the morning and so...what are you waiting for!
