In unique settings: the Boboli Gardens and the Roman theatre of Fiesole! Summer Opera & ballet

The wonderful surroundings of the Boboli Gardens, right on Florence’s doorstep, will be hosting the Opera Festival 2005 organised by Multiproma, which includes operas, concerts and ballet. Not to be missed, if only for the splendid setting, though we hope you go for the opera too, as it was after all first created in Florence! The programme also includes stagings at Pistoia and at the Medici Villa of Cafaggiolo.
It opens with the Momix company, whose original performances have captured enthusiastic audiences throughout the world (July 5th-6th). This is followed by La Bohčme (July 7th, 12th, 15th), Carmina Burana (July 14th) and La Traviata (July 19th, 22nd, 26th, August 3rd). Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on July 25th, Verdi’s Requiem Mass on July 28th and a concert by the Orchestra della Toscana, more commonly known as ORT, on August 2nd, complete the programme.
The Estate Fiesolana or Fiesole summer season will as usual be hosting the Florence Dance Festival, this year from June 19th to July 29th, alongside a series of concerts - jazz with Stefano Bollani - classical with the Fiesole School of Music and Nuovi Eventi Musicali, opera (The Barber of Seville) with the Maggio Musicale and films that continue through to September.
In July the Florence Dance Festival, directed by Marga Nativo and Keith Ferrone, is staging several performances by internationally famous dance companies who will present their diverse cultures through a variety of corporal languages. Special guests are the Canadian company Cas Public from Montreal and the American Smuin Ballet from San Francisco, though, of course the Florence Dance Company will also be staging one of its own original choreographic ballets.
