Buses around and about Town Catching Buses

How quickly and easily can one move around Florence? Obviously by using the city buses operated by Ataf in Florence. They cover the entire city of course as well as all its outlying areas. Students under 26 years of age are entitled to a discounted monthly bus pass that allows unlimited travel on all Ataf lines. These (like the ordinary tickets) can be bought from any ATAF vendor (usually tobacconists, newsagents and many bars). To get one however you must apply for a photocard (issued by the Ataf office outside the train station).
The Carta Agile is a special electronic ticket containing the price of several rides (according to what you spend), saving time in queues and usable by more than one person. Iris Tickets are all-in-one tickets for travel between Florence and Prato with several different coach companies.
Ataf also organises the Volainbus shuttle service links the airport (much cheaper than a taxi!) and is gradually replacing all its buses with eco-friendly transport.
Try the ATAF Minibus ecological fleet for getting around the old city centre. Tiny and nippy, they sliip through the narrow streets almost as fast as a bike! Well worth the ride
