Fresco by Luca Giordano

Luca Giordano and “friends”
[Susan Glasspool]

courtyard of the Medici Riccardi PalaceThis fascinating exhibition, curated by Cristina Giannini, includes a series of paintings and drawings carried out for the Riccardi family between the 17th and 18th century.
A rare chance to view so many splendid works by such artists as Luca Giordano, Bartolomeo Bimbi, Pandolfo Reschi, Giovan Battista Foggini, Francesco Conti, Ranieri del Pace and others, carried out in a really particular moment in that it marked the arrival of the Baroque culture in Florence, and it was centred precisely around the Palace in Via Larga. The Riccardi were in fact great patrons of the arts, much like the Medici, especially for the refined Baroque culture that can be found hidden in so many of Florence’s aristocratic palaces.
The show is organised, as in the previous editions, by the Province of Florence with the Board of Florentine Museums and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure of Florence.
