I never know what to say when I mention that I live in Florence and people reply, “Ah, Florence has a really good night life, doesn’t it?” But then you always take for granted what you have, don’t you? So, for all the night pilgrims always wandering around for fun and people, here is the definitive guide to the pubs and clubs of Florence…
Around
Santa Croce, The William Pub Via Magliabechi 7-11r (tel. 055.2638357), the Lochness Pub in Via de' Benci 19 r (tel. 055.241464) and The Lion's Fountain ( with a wide errace garden) in Borgo Albizi 34r (tel. 055.2344412) are all very popular choices. In the same area you can also find Rex Cafè: open daily from 6.30pm until late with buffet aperitif and long drinks, video sessions, concerts, monologues, poetry readings and dance shows from 10pm.
In the area between the Cathedral and the Train Station there is the Amadeus Music Pub (in Via de' Pescioni 5r, tel. 055.2398229), while in Piazza della Repubblica 15r (tel. 055.213694) "Donnini by Day" in the evenings doubles as "Papillon by Night" P.zza Repubblica, 15r.
The Chequers is one of Florence's longest-established pubs and is located in Via della Scala 7-9r (tel. 055.287588). On the other side of
Piazza Santa Maria Novella is The Fiddler's Elbow with a wonderful open-air space (tel. 055.215056).
Caffè Caracol in Via de' Ginori 10r (near piazza
San Lorenzo, tel. 055.211427) offers savory snacks, tequila and chili con carne. Also in the San Lorenzo area is Il Porcospino Wine Bar, located on Piazza Madonna Aldobrandini 11-12r (by the Medici Chapels, tel. 055.217700), which is also a delicious trattoria.
Near the Ponte Vecchio are the Loonees Pub in Via Porta Rossa 15 (tel. 055.212249) and The Old Stove Pub in Via Pellicceria 2-4r (tel. 055.284640).
On the left side of the Arno, upstream to downstream, you can find Il Rifrullo in Via S.
