Late Summer Nightlife

For those of you who have been through your Florence guide book and made a plan of all the best places to go out dancing, you will be shocked to find that during the summer many of the places that you have highlighted are closed. Often there is not even a sign on the door to indicate if the club or disco is closed for just that night, the week or in fact the rest of the summer. This is a strange phenomenon that occurs in Florence every May. All the discos in the centre of the city close their doors and similtaneously the summer discos open theirs.
What these bigger, summer clubs lack in intimacy they make up for in outdoor, openair atmosphere, and a wide choice of music on one of many dancefloors. They do however also come with a certain catch. The prices are a little higher than the standard drink price during the winter and almost without fail you will be presented with a strange looking Drink Card at the entrance.
The Drink Card is a little like running a tab in a bar. You use the card to pay for your drinks during the night and then pay on your way out. The unfortunate downside to this system is that it is a big responsibility. Each card has a euro value and if you lose the card, you have to pay the total amount which can be up to 60 euro. There will always be somebody who speaks English, so if you don't understand make sure you ask, how much you are paying and what is the
value of the card. Now go back to your guide book and highlight the places with the key word outdoor and I'll see you on the dancefloor.
