Good food is one of life’s greatest delights, and Florence makes it even more of a pleasure. Incredible regional Italian and other cuisine can be found in prices ranging from the inexpensive to the budget-bending; it all depends on your wallet and your sense of adventure. Below are some places that have proved perennial favorites of foreigners and florentines too.
Acqua al 2 in Via Vigna Vecchia 40r (tel. 055.284170) is a cheery bistro where art, fashion and good food draw a mixed late-night crowd. Famous for the series of different pasta dishes served in platters and the various salads all served together in a creative style.
Baldovino in Via San Giuseppe just steps from Piazza Santa Croce (tel. 055.241773) is both a Trattoria and (next door) an Enoteca. The coolest place around is renowned for his wood oven modern italian cooking matched by a wide choice of fine wines.
Il Gatto e la Volpe in Via Ghibellina 151r (Via de' Giraldi corner, tel. 055.289264) is a welcoming spot with reasonable prices. His speciality is florentine T-bone steak ,so you just have follow your nose around via ghibellina and you can’t fail.
Natalino, with outside tables in Borgo Albizi 17r (tel. 055.289404) is one of the oldest restaurant of the city, serving typical florentine specialities like grilled meat, homemade pasta and exquisite risotti. Natalino is located in a former church whose ancient decoration are still visible.
Semolina by the Sant'Ambrogio market (Piazza Ghiberti tel. 055.2347584) is a popular osteria with dishes from Tuscany and Campania.
Giglio Rosso in Via Panzani 35r (tel. 055.211795) was founded in 1927 and specializes in Tuscan cuisine but his popularity is dued to his fantastic fish recipes.
Grotta di Leo on Via della Scala (tel. 055.219265) serves food and pizzas all day from 11am to 1am for those who are looking for a friendly and warm spot this is the place.
Grotta Guelfa on Via Pellicceria in a wonderful location just near the 13th C. Palagio di Parte Guelfa (tel. 055.210042), and has an attractive summer garden.
Il Portale in Via Alamanni 29r by the Train Station (tel. 055.212992) and I 4 Amici around the corner in Via degli Orti Oricellari 29 (tel. 055.215413) are jointly managed and specialize in gluten-free meals, both offering an elegant atmosphere and sophisticated cuisine.
La Bussola in Via Porta Rossa 58 (tel. 055.293376) offers fine Tuscan cuisine, a wide choice of fine fish dishes and pizzas from a real wood-burning oven.
Il Sasso di Dante in Piazza delle Pallottole 6r (tel. 055.282113) is picturesquelly located by the right side of the Cathedral with an outdoor terrace staring romantically at the ancient cupola.
Parione, one of the most stylish restaurants in town, opens on both Via del Parione and Via della Vigna Nuova (tel. 055.214005).
Beccofino on Piazza Scarlatti (tel. 055.290076) is an airy. modern space where italian design and modern cuisine get married. We recommend the astonishing view from the outdoor terrace overlooking the River.
Viavai on Via Pisana near Porta San Frediano (tel. 055.2001381) is atypival tuscan restaurant and a friendly pisseria offering early birds a 15 percent discount off their bill.
