Art in Florence in the time of Dante
Until August 29th, the
Academy Gallery houses a number of extraordinary artifacts and artworks with the purpose of examining painting, sculpture and architecture in the second half of the 13th Century, when Florence's artistic language started to form across the Byzantine and Gothic styles, just before Giotto's genious entered the scene. Examples of fine works from other parts of Europe - English, French, Viking - and Florentine masterpieces from London, Paris, New York and Berlin will complement an unprecedented display of works by great masters like Arnolfo di Cambio,
Cimabue and Giotto as well as by a wideranging selection of unknown or lesser Florentine artists and craftsmen - bell-makers, goldsmiths, illuminators, carvers - to draw an unexpectedly vivid portrait of a golden age in Florentine art history.
Art in Florence in the time of Dante 1250-1300 is at the Academy Gallery until August 29th. For further info call 055.2654321
